5 Questions with Jesus Angulo

1. Can you please introduce yourself, tell us where you’re from, and how long you’ve shot on film?

My name is Jesus Angulo and I’m from Coachella, California.I’ve only been shooting film for a couple of years now but I’ve always had a passion for photography. I mainly would shoot with what I had available to me at the time, which was an iPhone but once I discovered film I knew I had to go out and get myself a camera.

2. Why do you like to shoot on film?

I love the look of it, the grain, the light leaks, and the way a slip up can somehow enhance a photo. Also, the anticipation and angst you get when waiting to see if your photos came out the way you expected or not.

3. What’s your favorite gear to use (camera, lens, film) ?

My current setup is a Canon Rebel 2000 with a 35-80mm lens. I mainly shoot street photography so this gets the job done but I would like to invest in a 24mm for those wide shots in the future. As for film, Fuji has been my go to for a while but lately I’ve been using Kodak. Preferably color negative and 800 speed film.

4. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

As of now this would have to be my favorite photo. I like simplicity and proper composition in my work and I feel like this encompasses that. I was also able to capture snowfall in the desert which is an uncommon occurrence.

5. Exactly what it is you want to say with your photographs?

I don’t really believe I have a confined message with my photos. Like I said before, simplicity and proper composition are key. So I guess the message I am trying to convey with my work is that you can make any ordinary object look great as long as you have the right angles and lighting.
