5 Questions with Sara Arruga

1. Can you please introduce yourself, where are you from, how long you shoot on film?

Hola 🙂 I’m Sara, I am 28 years-old and currently living in Barcelona. I loved to use disposable cameras as I child but it became an obsession after my parents gave me their film camera.

2. Why do you like to shoot on film?

Because of the thrill of (un)certainty and the touch of (im)perfection.

3. What’s your favorite gear to use (camera, lens, film) ?

I actually don’t possess so much photography gear. But I’m love with my Nikon F-100 and the multi-exposure option. In terms of film, I love (expired) Kodak Tri-X and Ektar 100. Ah! and the Schlecker AS 200 (RIP). Now I would love to buy a 120 film camera and start using different lenses.

4. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?

One of my favourite photographies is a black and white double-exposure of my serie ‘Forest Ghost’ that I shot in Hampstead Heath, London, with my friend Marie. It was one of my first double-exposure with my Nikon F100 but I actually didn’t wanted neither expected to mix those two shots. Although, I felt in love with the result.

5. Exactly what it is you want to say with your photographs?

I have actually thought a lot about what exactly I want to or I say with my photographies, and if I need to find a narrative. But for the moment, the more I want to find one, the more I get distracted. Maybe the serie that is closer to have something to say or a description is ‘Contemplatio’, but it actually focus precisely on how I feel when I shoot nature.
