1. Can you please introduce yourself, tell us where you’re from, and how long you’ve shot on film?
I’m Vadim. I live and study in Minsk, Belarus. I shoot on film for about 2 years, since my grandmother gave me Zenit ET.
2. Why do you like to shoot on film?
I like shoot film because of process, working with manual camera. Sometimes, when film is not loaded, I cock and release the shutter at different speeds to listen to the mechanisms inside. I also like the idea that I have unlimited “battery capacity” at my disposal and a very limited stock of frames. So I can’t shoot everything and have to think about what and how I’ll shoot, but at the same I can’t immediatelly get the result. This uncertainty, expectations and waiting for the result are the major part of the fun.
3. What’s your favorite gear to use (camera, lens, film) ?
I’ve been using Zenit and recently upgraded to Praktica MTL 5B. It’s more ”mechanical” than my Olympus IS-300 and more relliable than Zenit. So I think it’s a great hit and count on long term use. Speaking of film, I’d like to highlight Kodak Vision3 500T. Maybe because I bought it by mistake, and when I realized it was tungsten, I decided it was a great excuse to finally try shooting at long exposures.
4. Among your works, which one is your favorite? Why?
Well.. I’m not sure, that I have favorite one, but let it be this. My favorite from the last film. I’ve bought some rolls of expired Svema film and thus raised the level of uncertainty, as well as the desire to know the result.
5. Exactly what it is you want to say with your photographs?
I don’t think I want to say anything specific with my photos. I just try to take pictures that give me some inner satisfaction. The combination of colors, shapes and location of objects relative to each other help to achieve this.
